Santa Claus doesn't always need a long, floppy hat and a pompom!
This unusual Christmas hat takes its inspiration from the traditional Barrentina, a tall, soft cap associated with Portuguese fishermen. Reimagined in bright Christmas red fleece with a wonderfully plush ivory sherpa cuff, it combines the festive colors of Santa's familiar headwear with a completely different silhouette.
The result is a Christmas hat with a little old-world character, comfortable enough for everyday winter wear and distinctive enough to stand out at a holiday gathering.
A Different Take on the Santa Hat
The tall fleece crown can be worn upright for a dramatic, traditional look, allowed to slouch naturally, or tipped to one side for a more relaxed appearance.
A wide ivory sherpa cuff surrounds the head, providing soft, cozy warmth around the forehead and ears. Against the bright red fleece, the fluffy ivory trim creates the familiar contrast of a Santa hat without requiring the usual long tail.
The simple shape is part of its charm. There's nothing dangling behind you or swinging into your face, making this a particularly practical choice for holiday shopping, working outdoors, driving, or spending a busy afternoon at a Christmas market.
Warmth for the Holiday Season
Made from soft fleece with a plush sherpa cuff, this hat offers the comfort of winter headwear with a cheerful seasonal personality.
It looks right at home with a winter coat, a festive sweater, or a more traditional holiday outfit. And because the design is inspired by a working fisherman's cap rather than a theatrical costume, it has an appealingly relaxed character.
Whether you're celebrating Christmas, enjoying a Yule gathering, attending an outdoor winter festival, or simply looking for an unusual alternative to the ordinary Santa hat, this Barrentina is ready for the occasion.

Most of my hats can be made in any size you can get me a measurement for. I do not make hats for babies or small children, these ages have special laws for the materials an other trims that can be used. I have made hats large enough to fit the mascot costumes of teams. More generally I have made hats that fit those with extra large heads.
Most of the fabrics I use are stretch fabrics so there is a little give in the sizing.
For measurement, measure around where you want the bottom of the headband to fit.

First off, send me a conversation detailing what you want customized. A change to the size, color, trim, or a different design.
I will contact you back within 24 hours.
We then have a conversation about what can be done.
I have a huge studio with over 500 bolts of fabric, plus trims and yarn, so I can generally turn around in 2-3 days since supplies are on hand.
Once we have worked out the details, I will make the item. Send you photos.
Once I get your approval, will then create a custom listing and send you a link.
Once the item is paid for will ship.
If the customization is minor, like switching a pompom for a tassel, I may just have you purchase the existing item with a note to seller.
Bring me your ideas!

Yes you can. Hats are generally trimmed at the time of shipping. So if you want to change the color of pompoms or tassels. Switch to a different style of bell. Want to leave the tips blank, just send a message. Note that some trim may have a surcharge.
Orders over $250 dollars are not accepted by Mountaingoth and will be canceled. The protection offered by Etsy only covers up to $250. If you wish to make a larger purchase, you will need to break it into smaller orders which are each less than $250, this is for your protection to stay within the limits of Etsy protection.
Yes it really is my name. Married Mr. Love over 20 years ago and took his name. Funny how I'm always getting asked how to spell it.
